November 19th, 2014

Today's DIY is the perfect Christmas gift for your cousins, aunts, uncles, even grandma! To make this hot cocoa kit, you will need to buy several things.

Buy: (if you already don't have)
Marshmallows, hot cocoa, candy canes, ribbon, containers.

I don't know what those little holding things are called, (the ones holding the stuff) I'll just call them containers.

Make sure you wash the containers before putting in the hot cocoa in one, marshmallows in another, and chrushed candy canes in the other. Then close them and try them together with ribbon. Add extra mistletoe or flowers on top if you want.

Extra Idea:
Play around with what you put inside the tubes. You can put in candies or something. Another idea is to put this little hot cocoa kit into a mug and give it like that

Tuesday, November 18th-Crayon Drip Pumpkin

November 18th, 2014

Today's DIY is for the artists! We will be doing a crayon drip pumpkin! You know how everybody is doing that melted crayon thing? Well this is kinda similar.

Get a pumpkin. In the picture it's white, but any color will do.
Using tacky glue (can use hot glue too I think), glue on whole crayons on the top part of the pumpkin. Take off the wrappers/paper labels on the crayons before glueing. Then use a blow dryer to melt the crayons. Blow dry on high over the areas, causing the crayon to melt and drip to the bottom. Let cool and enjoy your new decor!

3. Cook in a toaster oven on toast mode until bread gets slightly browned.

4. Enjoy!

(Note: yes, I didn't use sauce. It tastes fine!)

Wednesday, November 12th-Melted Crayon Hearts

November 12th, 2014

You'll love today's DIY! Your heart will melt for this craft! (Yes, puns intended)

Steps:

Using a knife, cut up pieces of old or new crayons (doesn't matter if it's old or new, I just like to use old remains of crayons to get rid of them) I suggest putting all the crayon pieces into a bowl so it's easy to contain and make less mess. You will need cupcake trays in the shape of hearts to make actual hearts. But, if you want to experiment, use circles or squares or any shape you want! Next, put the crayons into the sections, filling it to the top. Bake at 230 degrees for 15 minutes. Always remember, be careful with the oven and knife! Once you have allowed your hearts (not your real hearts, your crayon hearts) to cool, take them out! A cool idea is to glue them onto a piece of scrapbook paper and write: Happy Valentine's Day for "crayon" out loud! You can write your own things too! For example, I came up with: You melt my heart! (Get it? Cuz the crayons are melted and they are hearts!)

Have fun experimenting with this project, it has lots of potential! You can either add a cute paper attached and have a cute poem or just hand out the hearts without anything, and they don't even have to be hearts! Have fun with this by changing it up! Live a little!

(I suggest you remove all labels and wash them first) Then, with sharpies you can decorate your mug/plate/bowl however you want. Place finished piece on tray. Put in the oven BEFORE you preheat the oven. Then, preheat oven to
350° F. Set timer for 30 min. Once finished, carefully pull out of the oven and let cool. They are now safe (and fun) to use!

Thursday, November 6th-DIY Nail Polish

November 6th, 2014

For those girls out there that love painting their nails, but can't find the right color!

Today is Do It Yourself Nail Polish!

Steps:

What you'll need:
~Eyeshadow
~Clear nail polish
~funnel
~toothpick

1. Take your clear nail polish, remove the lid.

2. Place the funnel over the nail polish bottle opening

3. Take your eyeshadow, and use a toothpick to scrape the eyeshadow into the funnel. (The eyeshadow will go through the funnel and into the bottle)

4. Take the funnel off, and put back on the nail polish cap. Shake the bottle, mixing around the nail polish with the eyeshadow.

5. Your done! Now test your nail polish on your nails!

Note: The polish won't be a solid color it will be shiny and clear-ish

Note 2: Add more eyeshadow to get the polish thicker

Note 3: An extra idea is to add glitter to your polish

Note 4: Shake before every use

Note 5: The polish will be very thin, so it's a good idea to do a couple coats

Wednesday, November 5th-Colorful Candles

November 5th, 2014

Today's DIY will knock your socks off! These cool candles are amazing! They are great to use as decorations in any room!

Take a small amount of wax and put it into a small Dixie cup. Microwave for a minute then stir and pour a thin layer into the bottom of a votive. Place a candle wick in the center and let harden. Peel off the paper on many crayons, you can use an Xacto knife to peel it off. Use one crayon per color.

Fill the Dixie cups with wax and then top with a broken up crayon. Microwave for two minutes, stir, then microwave for another two minutes. The goal is to create angled layers, so angle the votive and pour the now colored wax into it. Let the first layer dry for 20-30 minutes.

Repeat the last step (where you fill the cups with wax and a crayon, microwave, and pour) twice to create three layers in your candle.

Have fun experimenting with different colors and layers!

Tuesday, November 4th-Cool Lights!

Draw the curtains and turn on the lights, you're in for a treat! The sharpie's designs will cause those designs to be shadows on your walls.

Monday, November 3rd-Fall Candle

November 3rd, 2014

Today's DIY is a fall candle. They are super easy and don't require any crazy power tools! (phew) You will need a mason jar, fake leaves, Mod Podge, ribbon, and a sponge brush. You can mostly find mason jars, fake leaves, ribbon, and sponge brushes at the dollar store, so don't worry about the price.

Steps:

First, make sure the jar is clean. You should wash it or wipe it down before doing anything to it. Then, take your sponge brush and paint a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the jar. Once it is sticky, (you can tell by lightly feeling it) place a leaf on the jar. Paint more Mod Podge on top of the leaf in thin layers, making sure to smooth out the edges.  Start in the center of the leaf, and push your way out to the edges with your fingers.  It may take a few layers, but the leaf should stick to the jar.  I had to press a few times to get the leaves to stick; but as the Mod Podge dries, it should.  Don't be afraid to use your fingers to smooth out the leaf so that it is fully secure.  Layer more leaves on top, filling the jar with as many as you desire.  I didn't cover my jar fully, as I liked some of the negative space in between the leaves.  Once all the leaves are on, it will take a few hours to dry completely.   The tiny edges of the leaves may not stay completely down, but when the look is complete, you may barely even notice. Finish off the jar with tying ribbon around in a neat bow. Place a candle inside and enjoy your newly decorated candle!

*Extra Fun Idea: Buy the blank scrabble pieces to draw on or paint a solid color!*
